Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout was scheduled to take batting practice on the field Saturday as he moves closer to a return from the injured list.

Trout, 31, last played July 12 because of left rib cage inflammation. No timetable on Trout's return to the field has been set, with a minor league rehab assignment not out of the question.

"It feels good," Trout said, according to the Orange County Register. "I can't give you a timeline. Sooner rather than later, I think."

The former American League Rookie of the Year and three-time MVP participated in throwing and running drills before Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins.

Trout was batting .270 with 24 home runs and 51 RBIs in 79 games this season, and has played in just 115 games over the past two seasons because of his current injury and a right calf strain that cost him most of 2021.

In 12 seasons, all with the Angels, Trout is a career.303 hitter with a 1.000 OPS, along with 334 home runs and 867 RBIs. He is a 10-time AL All-Star.
